“What Tunabee Book Comes Alive is — a mixed reality storybook for families, with narrated pages, pop-up scenes and a short step into VR.”
Tunabee Book Comes Alive is a short story session you open on a table. The book appears on your real table in mixed reality, the pages are read aloud, and small scenes rise from the paper. At the close of the chapter you step into the story for a minute or so, then return to the table for a recap.
It is coming soon from aeternusvita.io. This post explains what it is, how a session runs, and who it suits, using only the details from the project brief and the store copy. If you want to hear when it is ready, you can get notified from Tunabee Book Comes Alive.
What Tunabee Book Comes Alive is
Tunabee Book Comes Alive is a story session on a VR headset. The one-line pitch is: "Open a Tunabee book on the table and step into a short story scene." The subtitle is "A storybook on your table".
The en-GB store description sets out the shape:
"Tunabee Book Comes Alive is a story session on a VR headset, for ages 10 and up with a parent nearby. The book opens on your real table in mixed reality."
It continues:
"The pages are read aloud, and the words light up so you can follow them. Pop-up scenes rise off the paper. At the climax the room fades, and you step into the story for 60 to 90 seconds. You then come back to the table for a recap and a question about what happened in the scene."
And it adds:
"A printed Tunabee book opens the matching chapter in the session. You do not need an account."
The closing line is: "Open the book on the table, listen, and step in when the story asks." The project is made by aeternusvita.io and listed in the factory under mixed reality as a kids and story session. Builds are prepared for Meta Quest, Android XR and Web.
How a session runs
You start at the table. The book opens on your real table in mixed reality, so you still see the room around you.
The brief describes the core loop in order: open book on table, then narrated pages with pop-up 3D scenes, then a "step inside" moment, then a 60 to 90 second immersive scene, then back to the room for a recap. That is the full arc of a chapter.
You do not need an account. The Play copy states that directly. Each printed Tunabee book opens its matching chapter in the session, so the physical book and the headset session point to the same story.
When the story reaches its climax, the room fades and you are in the story world. After the short time inside, you come back to the table where the book is still open.
Narrated pages and pop-up scenes
The first part of the session stays at the table.
The pages are read aloud. As the narration plays, the words light up so you can follow them. This is reading along — you hear the narrator and see the corresponding words highlighted.
While the pages turn, small 3D scenes rise from the paper. The brief lists the six features as:
- A Tunabee book opens on your real table
- Narrated pages with words that light up
- Pop-up scenes rise from the pages
- Step into VR for 60 to 90 seconds
- A recap and a question back in the room
- A printed Tunabee book opens its chapter
The pop-ups appear over the open book. You remain at the table while the paper becomes a small stage. The focus is on listening, following the highlighted words, and watching the scenes that rise, rather than on controller input.
The step into VR for 60 to 90 seconds
The middle of the session is the transition into VR.
At the climax, the room fades. The brief describes this as "the room fades into the story world, then returns" and the store copy gives the duration: 60 to 90 seconds inside the story.
This is a short, contained scene handled as a mixed reality to VR transition — a fade rather than a cut. The brief notes the comfort approach for this kind of transition: no artificial locomotion, fades only. The immersive part is kept brief and you return to the room afterwards.
For families, the length keeps the chapter grounded. You spend most of the time at the table with the book, then stand inside one scene you have just been reading about, then you are back.
The recap and question
After the immersive moment, you return to the table.
The book is still open in the room. The session gives a recap and a question about what happened in the scene you just stepped into. The store copy phrases it as: "You then come back to the table for a recap and a question about what happened in the scene."
The brief lists the learning goal as reading along with highlighted words and comprehension questions. It is practice in following text and recalling what happened, not a formal lesson. If you are reading with a child, the recap gives you a simple prompt to talk about together before you close the book.
Who it is for
The store copy says Tunabee Book Comes Alive is for ages 10 and up with a parent nearby. The brief adds the wider audience note: families with kids, where play is parent-supervised. Store age ratings follow platform rules, and Quest titles in this group target 10 and up with co-play messaging and are never marketed to under-10s directly.
In practice, a parent or carer stays with the child during the session. The headset is worn by one person at a time, so the other can listen to the narration and talk through the recap question together. The session is short by design — narrated pages, a brief step inside, then a return — which makes it easier to fit around reading time.
Because the book opens on the real table in mixed reality, the room stays visible for most of the chapter. Only the 60 to 90 second climax replaces the room with the story world. That keeps the shared part of the reading at the table, where you can pause or close the book.
What you need
The session is built for a headset that supports mixed reality, with the table as the anchor. The brief lists the target as Quest 3 mixed reality to VR transition, with builds also prepared for Android XR and Web. The factory notes that Quest 2 passthrough is greyscale and that these mixed reality ideas look best on Quest 3, with a VR "cosy room" fallback where needed.
You also need the printed Tunabee book for the chapter you want. The brief describes it as: "Each printed Tunabee book unlocks its 'comes alive' chapter." The store copy repeats it as: "A printed Tunabee book opens the matching chapter in the session." The physical book and the headset session correspond — you open the book you have, and the session opens that chapter.
There is no account required. That is stated in the en-GB description and held across the twelve Play locales.
The content is kept focused: a book prop with page art from existing Tunabee books, three pop-up 3D scenes per story, and one immersive environment per story.
Coming soon
Tunabee Book Comes Alive is listed as coming soon. Nothing has been submitted or released yet, so there are no ratings, reviews or release dates to report. The packages are prepared in the factory — a signed Quest APK, a signed Android XR AAB and an HTML5 web build — and the store listings are in draft.
If you want to follow it, the product page is the place to check. You can open Tunabee Book Comes Alive and use the notify option there to hear when it is ready.
The shape is simple: open the book on your table, listen as the pages are read aloud with words that light up, watch pop-up scenes rise from the paper, step into the story for 60 to 90 seconds when the room fades, and come back for a recap and a question.
